My computer won't get an IP address. Hi,My name is Chris and I have been on this forum once before and I found a lot of help regarding my previous issue. Today I grace your presence once again because I can not solve this problem and I have been working on it for a while. First off I would like to list my specs,Operating System : Windows XP Home Edition. System Manufacturer : Dell Inc. System Model : Inspiron 5. BIOS : Pheonix- Award.
Bios v. 6. 0. 0pg. Proccessor : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6. Ghz. Memory : 3. 32. RAMModem > Router > Switch setup, all of other computers internet works. So it is not the hardware. Yesterday, while at work, I was doing the normal when my computer froze up (does that sometimes) So I did a hard restart, when it booted back up my internet card said . So I restarted the router and the modem (about 5 times now), says the same thing. So I decided to go the LAN route and plug directly into the router, the LAC says . Any help would be great, since I am sitting at work waiting for any answer at all. TL; DR - My computer won't get an IP address no matter what I do. You're not alone. Users all over the country are finding out daily that suddenly, for no apparent reason at all, they are unable to send mail if they wan. When your computer can't get an IP address any other way, it assigns itself a 169.254 IP address. It's a sure sign of a problem. My computer’s IP address was 192.
